Tim McCann is an American film director who was born in Spring Valley, NY.

His independent feature films have won numerous awards, including the International Critic’s Prize (FIPRESCI) at the Toronto Film Festival, the Merchant Ivory Award at the Telluride Film Festival, and Critic’s Choice at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. He was nominated for the “Someone to Watch” Award by the Independent Spirit Awards.

His first film, Desolation Angels, was presented by Jonathan Demme and called “blazingly provocative” by Peter Travers of Rolling Stone Magazine, “a knockout debut feature” by the LA Times, and “a film with undeniable moral vision” by Jonathan Rosenbaum of the Chicago Reader.

Variety said of Revolution #9 that “McCann’s instinctive camera-eye burnishes nearly every exchange with a Cassavetes dynamism… Superlative performances.” Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times called it “utterly absorbing.”

Variety labeled Runaway “A slacker psycho thriller that will keep audiences off balance till the bitter end…Paralyzing performances.”

Matt Zoller Seitz said of All Mistakes Buried that “Some of its passages are so eerily beautiful that the sordid subject matter becomes ennobled, even sanctified” and the International Film Journal stated “Tim McCann has made a string of psychological crime dramas that are like hardboiled crime paperbacks... (All Mistakes Buried) is shot so beautifully it seems to elevate the story to a level of celestial significance.”

McCann has worked with actors such as Robin Tunney, Sam Trammell, Udo Kier, Dylan Baker, Spalding Gray, Adrienne Shelly, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo, Johnathon Schaech etc.

McCann splits his time between New York and North Carolina.
